A few years ago I visited Bali. Mainly stayed in Seminyak but, did stay In Ubud. I loved it, to say the least. There’s one thing in Bali that everyone is shocked at the numbers of.. Stray dogs.

There’s 1000’s. It hit me hard going in, but I had came prepared. I brought dog food, donations, plastic toys (it’s easier for shelters to clean), old clothes, etc. I knew when I came I would be feeding so many dogs, and that’s exactly what I did haha. Everywhere I went I brought dog food with me, feeding the strays. It tore me apart having to leave them.
But, there is a couple companies in Bali doing amazing things for homeless dogs. (BAWA association and BARC for Bali dogs.) They collect them off the street, rehabilitate/vaccinate them, then put them up for adoption. The only catch is, they have to be injured and sick for them to even collect them. They don’t receive enough funds to collect them all. So you almost want the dogs to be hurt, so they can get a second chance at life.

There’s one company that stole my heart and that was, BARC for Bali dogs. I brought over all my old clothes and donations that were well needed for their centre. I ended up going over my luggage at the airport by 4kgs, the baggage woman said I would have to pay an extra $100 for the excess weight. I then said “Crap, I’m going to have to take out some of my donations!”. The baggage lady turned to me and said “Oh, it’s for charity! Don’t worry, I don’t care if I get in trouble” whilst putting a heavy tag on and sending it off. I was over the moon! I have never forgotten about what she did. So when I rocked up to BARC in Ubud I donated my stuff, and started speaking to the manager. She was at the time taking care of the adoption centre, front desk, charity shop, 15+ dogs, 10 cats, all by herself! And she still took the time out of her day, to show us around and tell us the story of how every dog ended up there. It was amazing. They even had a grey little kitten called “Christian Grey”! One story stuck out in mind. It was this beautiful German Shepard who was missing her ear. She had been rescued with BARC from breeders, spent most her life in a cage only to find out she had a tumour, on the left side of her face, when she was rescued. BARC removed it and treated her for other issues and now she is the shop dog, loved everyday. How you can help: This company allows people to volunteer with their gorgeous dogs, https://barc4balidogs.org.au/volunteer/ Sells merch and calendars in store, which fund their rehab centre. They also take donations which are much needed, for all the work they do. If you would like to donate here’s the link. It also tells you how much your amount contributes. https://barc4balidogs.org.au/donation/ Also by bringing donations when you head to Bali. Everything is a lot cheaper in Europe/Australia/USA, etc than in Bali. What you can bring: Flea/worming treatments Dog food Plastic toys (no fluffy toys as they aren’t to make sterile) Old clothes/products they can sell in their charity shop Definitely worth going for a visit. I mean, playing with all rescued dogs sounds like a good day to me. And it doesn’t have a shelter vibe. All the dogs are together playing and roaming around, the back of the property. Bali dogs took a huge piece of my heart. I met this one dog on a street in Ubud, I called her “Flower”. It was a really hot day so I fed her and gave her some called water, while I was waiting for my bus. She loved it! The most precious moment with her was when I went to hold out my hand, to give her more water she placed her head, cupped in my hand, wanting to be petted. I actually died inside! I spent a good hour with her, and learnt that she was deaf. I cried so much leaving her. The looks I got from tourists and locals, were looks of disgust. Like I was crazy. But you shouldn’t care what they think. They don’t receive very much love in their lives and if you can give them a chance of love and compassion, it wont be a waste. I really think it makes all the difference to them. I can’t wait to go back and give so many more dogs love! I hope you too, will support Bali dogs and become apart of spreading the love in the world, to creatures big and small. You can watch my Bali 2015 adventure:
