Tips to Save Money for Travel

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

Don’t purchase clothes or unnecessary goods. Sell the clothes you don’t need and use that money to purchase new clothes. That way you won’t use any new funds for clothes! Also fix the clothes you have! For example; bra straps too loose now? Hem the straps up! This goes for goods too. I see so many people wasting money on clothes and these new products. That money could be used making the experiences that you know, you want to have.

*Personally I always use my phone till it breaks. I never get the newest phone, etc. I literally use that phone, go on a Sim plan and never pay more than $40 a month for my phone. Think about all that money you could be saving. Rather than in a few months time or year, you’re going to be needing to buy a new phone, to keep up with everyone else.

*Put a (realistic) amount of money aside every pay. And don’t touch it! Trust me it’s worth it! Be realistic about the amount you are putting in. Plus if you have any left over from the week after bills, food, etc, chuck that in too!

* Discount fruit and veg markets & buy products/foods in bulk I have a local discount fruit and veg place, that sells fruit and veg so cheap! And in bulk! I have brought a whole tray of mangoes for $5 before, or a whole box of broccoli for $5! The later in the day you go, the cheaper it should be. Also buying foods and products in bulk saves money in the long run and resources! Buying a huge bag of rice and a bigger bottle of shampoo, saves everyday costs.

**Go Vegan. Or at least eat less meat. Meat is so expensive and it’s only rising! Vegan foods are the cheapest foods of the world. Live off the basic healthy foods. Beans, rice, potatoes, veg are the cheapest foods out. 75c for a can of filling lentils or $10 for a huge bag of rice? That shit is cheap. If not the biggest tip, is live minimally. Honestly do little things in everyday living that saves you money. *Make coffees from home!! How much money you could save when those capsules are cheap as shit. Also NEVER buy your water. Always leave the house with a big drink bottle. Think about how much water people buy when they are out and about. How much money you could save, buying a life source that you need, when you could just bring it from home. (Plus, it’ll make you drink more having it on hand)

*Switch the lights off when you leave a room, you only need one room light on. You don’t need to be sitting in the lounge with your bedroom light on. I always switch my power switches off when I’m not using something. Use air cons, fans minimally, only when you really need them.

*Have shorter showers, hang your clothes instead of using a dryer. These are all electricity saving ideas. Less money on bills = more money on travel! Plus it’s good for the environment.

*Rent/buy a house sized only for what YOU need. If you have to rent, rent small for a while. Try and find a place that doesn’t make you pay for a utility. *Quit the gym, get outside or invest in some equipment at home. That’s $50+ a month you could be saving.

** One big thing I do is buy all my products in bulk or super sized. My dish soap, my hand soaps, body washes. You’re paying that little bit more, to save more. I get products that give you cheaper refills. For example; Ecominerals powder refills your powder for a cheaper price, Lush give you a free facemask if you recycle like seven empty containers.

I personally use all these tips and people are baffled with how much I can afford to travel, when sometimes I only have like 2-3 shifts a week. It’s because I make travelling a priority. And live minimally so that I can experience the most! I do all these things, and trust me it all adds up! Seriously give it a go and look at how much you save. My partner and I’s power bill always comes and it says we are using less than one person’s use! We save money! And you can too!
